I'll wait till I'm finished paying the C4, then trade it for one of these, or a 740i or a P38 (Most probably the S8)

yeah a P38 isnt too bad, and the 740i has it's own issues, I would stick with the S8 in that case. Sweet!

I just hope they don't vanish before I'm able to grab one, they surface very rarely.

Yes, go and buy one.
Remove the C4 by means of fire, and then boom. S8.

40V 4.2 L Audi V8 does not sound reliable nor cheap at all. But if you really want it, go for it. Do what makes you happy.

Lol. Have you done any research re: maintainence? Timing belt replacement seems to be a major issue with those motors, which is too bad. I love the D2 A8's design. They have such clean lines. Audi suggests a 105k service interval on the belt, but supposedly 60-90k is more like it. The real issue: the engine needs to be removed for this service and you're supposed to replace everything the belt touches. So if you aren't turning your own wrenches, you're in for a helluva labor bill! Which is exactly what keeps me from considering a D2 S8.
